Compatibility guide

Every product page lists its own compatibility details. This page explains what those labels mean so you can check before you buy.

Excel version

Most templates are built for Excel 2019 and later, including Microsoft 365. Older versions (2013/2016) usually work, but newer formula functions may not be available. The exact requirement is stated on each product page.

Windows and Mac

Templates without macros work identically on Windows and Mac. Macro-enabled templates (.xlsm) can behave differently on Mac because of Microsoft's platform differences — where that matters, the product page says so.

Macro-free vs macro-enabled

Macro-free templates use only formulas and built-in Excel features. They open without security warnings and work everywhere, including Excel on the web.

Macro-enabled templates include automation (VBA). They're more powerful, but Excel will ask you to enable macros when you open them, and they won't run in Excel on the web or in Google Sheets.

Google Sheets

Templates marked Google Sheets-compatible can be imported and used there. Macro-enabled templates cannot — VBA doesn't exist in Google Sheets. Complex conditional formatting and some chart types may also render differently after import.
